Pits or Stones?

Lachlan's grandma Marsha, who also happens to be the best mother-in-law EVER, got us a cherry pitter.    Well, she got it for Lachlan because he just kept insisting that we needed to have one.  Side note:  It's technically called a cherry "stoner" and my husband laughed like a teenage boy when he read the box.  I've never heard a cherry pit called a "stone".  Anyway, Lach was so excited to come home and pit cherries, so I had to come up with a good use for pitted cherries.  To tell grandma thank you for the brand new cherry pitter we made a cherry pie.  It was both mine and Lachlan's first fruit pie ever.  I looked up what seemed to be a reliable recipe (thank you, Betty Crocker) and we got to work.

Doesn't that look so good?  With my absolute love of butter I could've just eaten that up with a spoon...and maybe I did.

There it is.  The finished product.  Lachlan was so proud of our pie and as soon as it cooled a bit we drove straight to grandma's house to deliver our thank you gift.  Grandma seemed pleased too and made whipped cream to go on top.

Note to self:  Next time try a different recipe because once the pie cooled all the sugar settled at the bottom.  Maybe the Lion House cook book next time.
